Resumen

This paper aims to present dance in the school context, especially in the subject of Physical Education, as part of bodily culture, supported by the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) - (Brasil, 2018). Physical Education, as a mandatory curricular component, goes beyond traditional sports practices by incorporating dance as content that broadens the understanding of cultural diversity and develops students’ motor, cognitive, emotional, and social skills. In this sense, the BNCC recognizes dance as one of the essential contents of Physical Education, along with other bodily practices, emphasizing its importance in valuing bodily culture and the integral formation of students. By associating dance in school, the BNCC points out that this practice contributes to the  evelopment of competencies such as the appreciation and respect for cultural diversity, encouraging expression and communication through body movement. Thus, dance has a fundamental formative role that goes beyond leisure and entertainment to become an educational practice, promoting body awareness and inclusion. This research adopts a qualitative methodology, conducted through a bibliographic review of scientific works related to the topic. It is observed that dance can be worked on interdisciplinarily, inserted in the subjects of Physical Education and Arts, allowing diverse approaches and potentially contributing to other subjects. Therefore, the BNCC encourages schools to explore dance in various pedagogical activities, promoting reflections and practices that are not limited to commemorative dates or occasional events. With this, it is expected that schools expand their strategies, recognizing the value of dance throughout the entire teaching-learning process.
